Modern cuisine rooted in tradition.
Every dish tells a story.
Each plate is a canvas, each flavour a brushstroke drawn from the rich tapestry of South African culinary heritage.
Herb-crusted lamb loin from the Karoo, served with rosemary-infused potato purée, charred broccolini, and a red wine jus reduced to velvety perfection.
A fragrant bobotie-inspired curry with slow-braised lamb, turmeric rice, sambals, and house-made roti — a tribute to the Cape's spice route legacy.
Traditional Cape Dutch malva pudding with a caramelised apricot centre, warm custard, and a quenelle of vanilla bean ice cream from our in-house creamery.
The Copper Plate was born from a simple belief: that food should honour where it comes from. Founded in 2019 in the heart of Johannesburg, we set out to create a space where South Africa's diverse culinary traditions converge on a single plate.
Our kitchen draws from the braai fires of the Highveld, the spice markets of the Cape, and the bold flavours of the Indian Ocean coast. Every ingredient is sourced locally, every technique refined but never overcomplicated.
We don't just serve dinner. We serve memory, place, and pride — plated with intention.
Words from those who have dined with us and experienced the warmth of The Copper Plate.
The Copper Plate isn't just a restaurant — it's a love letter to South Africa. The Karoo lamb literally melted on my tongue, and the wine pairing was inspired. We drove from Pretoria and it was worth every kilometre.
We celebrated our anniversary here and from the moment we walked in, everything felt intentional. The space is beautiful, the service impeccable, and the malva pudding? I still dream about it. An absolute gem.
Join us for an evening of extraordinary food, warm hospitality, and the kind of moments that linger long after the last bite.
